Enhancements to our TV programming

Sunday, March 23, 2014, 1:50 PM -

In less than two weeks, our television programming team will be releasing an exciting lineup of engaging content.

Here is a sneak-peak of what you can expect in our programming nation-wide beginning March 31, 2014.

SPRING IS HERE: When will the warm-up begin?

SD Banner Re-design with your 5-day forecast

We are continuing to upgrade our localization technology to enhance viewing experience. As part of this upgrade we will be introducing a new banner design in standard-definition which will elevate our overall look. In addition to your 3-day forecast, we will also be introducing your 5-day forecast. This banner will continue to be on-screen during commercials to give you your weather, 24/7.

Coming up in your local forecast

To better communicate what products you will be seeing in our local forecast this spring, we will be introducing a tab feature which will let you know what is coming up next.

More cities and your 14-day in HD

Our HD programming just got better. We will continue to have our L-shape banner over commercials and also during our live programming. So that means you will always get your weather on-screen, 24/7. Further to that we will also be adding more cities to our carousel to better serve our audience and will be introducing your 14-day trend in the L-shape banner, a first in our HD programming.

25th anniversary local forecast music

To help celebrate our 25th anniversary, we will be bringing back some of our local forecast music from days past. These oldies but goodies will include local forecast music from the 90’s and early 2000’s which will bring back some memories of our proud history. Listen, remember and enjoy!

New programming wheel

Our live on-location presence will be front and centre in our new programming wheel. In the mornings you will know instantly, how cold/warm it is outdoors and how to dress the kids for school with our reporter in the elements. We will then dive deep into our weather forecast with detailed analysis on developing weather systems and how it may impact you. In addition to Force of Nature, we will be introducing several new segments as part of our regular programming including Science Behind the Weather, Top 5 Videos, Around the world in 80 seconds, The Long Ranger, Time Lapse Tuesday’s and Weather IQ to name a few. Here is a synopsis of what some of the segments will cover.

Around the World in 80 Seconds

The most fantastic and fastest 80 seconds in weather presented by Reader’s Choice Award Winner Kim MacDonald.

Science Behind the Weather

More than just the forecast, in-depth analysis and expertise on how weather works.

Time Lapse Tuesday

Mesmerizing weather, scenery and landscapes caught on tape by the world’s best cinematographers.

TOP 5 VIDEOS

Facts, figures, and amazing visuals, as we countdown our Top 5 Videos.

Weather IQ

You’ll never know where TWN will pop up with this Pop Quiz; learning weather in a lighter way with Chris Mei.

Weather maps closer than ever before

We will be re-engineering our virtual set to bring the weather closer to you by zooming our maps full-screen.  This will make our weather forecasts easier to read on-screen and bring the weather to the forefront of our storytelling.

NEXT PAGE: IT DOESN'T STOP HERE. UNIQUE FEATURE CONTENT AHEAD.

Doesn’t stop there

April marks Earth Week and as part of our programming we will be presenting our special series, “Unearthed” where we discuss climate change and how it has impacted both the Arctic and Antarctic. We will also be storm chasing this year in both Canada and the U.S. as part of our active weather coverage before, during and after a storm.

All of these initiatives are thanks to your feedback.  Please let us know what you think of our programming and we will do our best to serve your needs.

Our programming team would like to thank all our viewers for their support!
