DiCaprio 'proud' leaders making climate change a priority

Thursday, January 7, 2016, 11:30 AM - Movie star and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio feels world leaders are finally taking climate change more seriously.
During an interview Wednesday on the red carpet for his new film The Revenant, the movie star mentioned the U.N. Climate Conference in Paris was a major turning point.
"No one has the answer what the future is going to look like, and no one can foresee the dramatic effect that climate instability will have on our planet and the biodiversity in it, but I'm just very proud for the first time we've taken a step in the right direction," DiCaprio told The Associated Press.
Over 190 nations from around the world - both developed and developing - arrived together to produce a plan in Paris, which included a goal to limit human-caused global warming to 1.5oC.
"The scientific community has been screaming out loud. Ninety-nine per cent of the scientific community is in agreement that man is contributing to (climate change), he said. "The argument is over. Anyone that doesn't believe that climate change is happening doesn't believe in science."
The American actor was recently heckled online by Albertans after an interview with Vanity Fair. The Revenant was partly filmed in the province and DiCaprio discussed witnessing the "terrifying" effects of climate change firsthand. Turns out, the actor was unfamiliar with Chinook winds.
Meanwhile, ranchers in B.C. were ecstatic to see DiCaprio sporting one of their buffalo hides in the new Hollywood blockbuster.
Siblings Franzi Ng and Rudy Karlen received a call from the set and wardrobe directors for The Revenant in the summer of 2014.
"Before we knew it, two shipments of hides and skulls were shipped down to Vancouver... a few weeks ago, we saw the trailer of the movie and there was our hide on the shoulders of a major movie star," Ng told CBC.
The hide was made by hand at the family's XH Buffalo Ranch in 70 Mile House, located northwest of Kamloops.
