Cristobal lashes the Bahamas, continues to strengthen as it moves northward

Monday, August 25, 2014, 8:11 AM - Tropical Storm Cristobal continues to strengthen as it moves northward away from the Bahamas.
According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Cristobal could become a hurricane in the next few days.
"On this forecast path, Cristobal is of no direct threat to the U.S. East Coast," adds weather.com.

"Also, while potentially strengthening to a hurricane, Cristobal may track sufficiently to the west and north of Bermuda to restrict impacts to simply locally heavy rain and high surf/rip currents."
The storm is expected to produce 100-200 mm of rain over the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as portions of the southeastern and central Bahamas through Tuesday. Isolated amounts of 300 mm is possible, the NHC warns.
"Tropical storm conditions could still occur over portions of the warning area through this morning. Strong gusty winds are also possible over portions of the southeastern Bahamas and Turks and Caicos islands," says the NHC.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Hurricane Marie continues to move west-northwest as a major Category 4 storm.
Marie is centred about 750 kilometres southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula with general weakening expected to begin Monday night.
