Halloween in December: Spooky fog descends on Ontario
Monday, December 15, 2014, 3:40 PM - It's beginning to look a lot like "Christmasween" in southern Ontario as thick fog blanketed part of the region Monday, making for some spooky photo ops.
Conditions were perfect for fog to form in southern Ontario Monday, according to Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg.
"We had warmer air aloft in the atmosphere over cooler surface temperatures in southern Ontario, which is called an inversion," she explained. "When that happens, moisture trapped below that inversion causes advection fog."
Winds were also light, which prevented the moisture at the surface from getting mixed out. Under these conditions, people at the surface find themselves literally walking in a cloud.
